Bedfordshire Memory Navigation Service has collated a few useful resources and services from national organsations which aim to support people living with dementia and their carers whether through advice or through stimulating activities.


There are a range of useful dementia applications that have been designed for people living with dementia, the following list also includes a few examples of the types of apps available.

Age UK

Age UK offer community-based support services for people living with dementia and their carers to improve their quality of life. They have trained befrienders who can provide regular friendly companionship for people with dementia over the phone or home visits.

Age UK Advice is a free, confidential, national phone service for older people, their families, friends, carers and professionals. They have a team of expert advisers who will give you information that is reliable and up-to-date. Lines are open 8am-7pm, 365 days a year.

Alzheimers Society

The Alzheimer's Society can offer you:

Local Activity groups – for people with dementia and their carers (only in some areas)

Talking Point, an online community

A wide range of publications designed to support and inform anyone affected by dementia

Carers UK is an organisation which aims to support family carers through advice and information services.

Dementia Friends

Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.

Could you participate in dementia research? For information and advice on how to to register your interest and what type of research you could be involved in, please view their website.

Herbert Protocol

The Herbert Protocol has been established to help those vulnerable people living with Dementia, should they go wandering, it is designed to keep those people safe and give families peace of mind. The Herbert protocol is a quick form and photo ID stored within the police database and used if needed regarding these vulnerable people.

It would be helpful for families where there is a person with dementia, to complete this form and let the police have it on their files to make things more efficient should a person with dementia go missing.

House of Memories app

 House of Memories is an application which allows you to explore objects from the past and share memories, designed for, and with, people living with dementia and their carers. An app with sound, music and descriptions, and provide an easy-to-use way to help people living with dementia explore things that resonate with them.

Mindmate app

MindMateis an application which has been designed to help people living with dementia to improve their brain health with games for mental exercise, workout routines and recipes.

Mental Health Foundation

The Mental Health Foundation  can provide you with information and tools for all aspects of mental health. Here you can also view reports and evidence used by government and the media.

 

NHS Choices

NHS Choices  provides comprehensive health information service with thousands of articles, videos and tools, helping you make the best choices about your health and lifestyle, as well as making the most of NHS and social care services in England.
